Music, movement, and flow have always been important to her- anything to tune into the body so as to tune out that which does not exist in the present. Growing up in a Puerto Rican family, dance and music have always been synonymous with joy and celebration. During her undergraduate career, she became immersed in the world of capoeira. As a capoeirista, she fell in love with the energy of community and conversation through movement. She felt that same energy when she took her first class here at the Dance Floor- and is so excited to be a part of such a warm and sparkly group of individuals! In August of 2022 Ciele moved to the Bay Area from Raleigh NC and began pursuing her PhD at UC Berkeley. Her research focuses on how the body- specifically the skeleton, embodies stress from our natural and psychosocial environments; and how that stress can be passed down from mothers to infants. She is particularly interested in populations from the Caribbean/ of the Afro-latinx diaspora. Originally from Los Angeles, she has a background in jazz and Hip Hop. Her style can be described as playful yet confident. She finds that people feel their most confident while on the dance floor (pun intended) as she, too, learned to lose her inhibitions while dancing. Andrea's classes create an opportunity for people to let go and to perform for no one else but themselves. Andrea took a hiatus from teaching when she moved to San Antonio, TX, from the Bay Area, in 2019, but the dance bug never left her, and she resumed teaching classes at The Dance Floor. When she is not dancing, she is working full-time as an administrator at a private school, and spending time with her husband, young son, and two dogs, and cat. When Sydney moved to Berkeley for college, she quickly fell in love with the city and has called it home ever since. Sydney graduated from UC Berkeley in 2024 and now spends her time wearing many hats, including event planning, soccer coaching, and finding creative ways to bring people together. When she’s not dancing, you can find her exploring local restaurants/cafes/bars, spending time outdoors, getting lost in a good conversation, or enjoying quality time with friends and family.
